RCS Help The Gracie-May Appeal

September 1, 2010 by erjjio_support Leave a Comment

Gracie, who is 3 years old has cerebal palsy and has been unable to stand or walk. Born three months premature, she spent the first 10 weeks of her life in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with her twin sister.

A trust was setup by Gracie’s mum, Mandy Fuller with the appeal raising money to give Gracie the chance of a life changing operation in America, which will help the youngster stand and walk on her own. RCS made a donation to the appeal which raised in excess of £40,000 and has since enabled Gracie and her family to make the trip to America.

The operation took place on 27th July and Gracie-May is having lots of physio and is make good progress on a daily basis.

Mandy Fuller said: “Thank you for helping us to reach our target of £40,000 to help our little girl Gracie.

“Your donation was gratefully received and without it we would not have reached our total in time for he operation on the 27th July.”

Terry Carrigan, RCS Chairman said: “When RCS discovered there’s an operation in America that releases the spasms in her back, allowing her body to start to heal itself, we just had to contribute.

“We received confirmation from Mandy that the operation has taken and all RCS staff wish her a safe journey and speedy recovering.”

RCS Pair Raise 2k With 10k!

June 1, 2010 by erjjio_support Leave a Comment

The Bupa London 10k, which is presented by the London Marathon and run on the course likely to be used for the 2012 Olympic Marathons, took place on 31st May.

Both Pauline (RCS Executive Director) and Gemma (RCS HR Manager) completed the 10k run in under one hour; 4,874th place and 3,837th place, respectively.

It was Pauline’s commitment to run for Alzheimer’s Society, after her father was diagnosed with the condition earlier this year.

Pauline said: “The Alzheimer Society is a charity close to our hearts and is drastically underfunded.

“Alzheimer’s is a terrible disease which is affecting more and more families and additional funds are urgently needed to support more research into the causes and possible cures.”

Pauline and Gemma have both raised a combined figure of just under £2,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society and have been overwhelmed by the support they received. Gemma said: “We’d like give a really big thank you to all those who have sponsored and supported us.

“Approximately 13,000 people ran on the day and the atmosphere was fantastic.

“I am reliably informed that a world record for 10k was beaten that day although unfortunately not by Pauline or I!”

RCS Sign Up To 10:10 Campaign

May 1, 2010 by erjjio_support Leave a Comment

10:10 is an ambitious project to unite every sector of society behind one simple idea: we all commit to reduce our emissions by 10% in 2010, then work together to make it happen.

The 10:10 campaign was founded by Franny Armstrong, director of the climate change blockbuster The Age of Stupid. The idea came to Franny while walking through Regent’s Park in London on her way to a debate with UK Climate & Energy Secretary Ed Miliband.

RCS Managing Director, David Sambrook said: “Joining 10:10 both underlines our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint even further and gives us a wealth of advice. We urge other UK businesses to join.

Doing 10:10 means committing to aim for a 10% reduction across four key areas of your carbon footprint. For most businesses this is is ambitious but achievable. We hope you’ll manage the full 10%, but we recognise that many progressive companies that have made significant cuts already will find it hard to achieve further deep cuts in 2010. 10:10 recognises all emissions reductions as a success, but those organisations achieving the full 10% can expect to feature prominently in coverage of the project.

In The Fast Lane For Charity

April 7, 2010 by erjjio_support Leave a Comment

Fifteen members of the RCS team, divided into three teams (Tumbles Tornadoes, Pace Makers and Slick Vick & The Cockney Rockets) took part, with fourteen teams and companies also getting involved.

The evening was organised by London based Chartered Accountants, Simpson Wreford & Co at Lakeside Karting Raceway, Thurrock, Essex. The three winning teams were PureFD (Kamikaze Racers), Simpson Wreford & Co (The Wacky Racers) and Waters & Stanton PLC (Hockley Hot Rods).

With supporters also getting involved during the fun-packed energy sapping racing, the evening raised over £1,000. This figure was then divided amongst the winning teams charity’s, which included: The Smiles & Memories Fund and Little Havens Children’s Hospice.

Despite RCS not coming in the top 3, everyone involved had a superb time and a donation was made to favoured charity Demelza House.

RCS Chairman, Terry Carrigan said: “Simpson Wreford & Co organised a fantastic evening and the team all thoroughly enjoyed themselves out on the track.

“It’s great to see so many people come together and help raise funds for a whole host of charities.”

Office Goes Dotty!

April 1, 2010 by erjjio_support Leave a Comment

April 1st was set as the “Go Dotty Day” by the Demelza charity, who asked all schools, businesses and individuals to “go dotty for Demelza”.

The RCS office certainly did just that and each and every staff member arrived at the office covered in polka dot attire (thankfully no bikini’s though!)

RCS’s continued commitment towards the Sittingbourne based Children’s Hospice will also be displayed during an up-coming Golf Day. In May 2010, RCS will take part in a fund raising golf day at Sundridge Park Golf Club.

As part of this event, the teams will aim to raise funds that will continue the excellent work of this charity – making a real difference to the lives of families with children who have life limited or life threatened illnesses.

Money Raised In Memory Of Rob

October 15, 2009 by erjjio_support Leave a Comment

More than £25,000 was raised at a high-profile event in memory of Addicks supporter Rob Knox last Thursday.

Metropolitan Police commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson was among over 400 guests at The Valley for the charity dinner.

As speeches were made and auctions carried out, there was a vivid reminder of the reason why everyone was present in SE7. Outside in the north-west quadrant, the darkness was broken only by a solitary spotlight, picking out the seat that Knox, who was murdered in May 2008, used to sit in.

A Charlton shirt bearing his name on the reverse was draped over the seat, and Charlton Community Trust chief executive Jason Morgan said the event was both a fitting tribute and a great opportunity to heighten awareness of the danger of street violence.

“The evening was a huge success,” he said. “We will know the exact amount that was raised in the next few days, but it was certainly more than £25,000. We were overwhelmed by the support we achieved, and I would like to thank Sir Paul Stephenson, Barry and Margaret Mizen and Richard Taylor in particular for attending.”

Jason added: “I would also like to thank everyone who attended, especially those who generously donated to the cause on the evening. Also, special thanks to the Daily Mirror and Sky, plus Regular Cleaning Services, PHB construction Ltd, C&M contracts (UK) Ltd and INTEN for their sponsorship of the night.”
