The Upbeats Quiz

June 26, 2013 by erjjio_support Leave a Comment

The quiz raised a fantastic sum of £6,100 from that evening alone, with more than 220 people taking part. All proceeds from the night will help to fund further projects for the Charlton Upbeats and contribute to sustain the programme, which has grown to engage over 120 young people.

The Charlton Upbeats is a bespoke programme delivered by CACT (Charlton Athletic Community Trust) for young people with Down’s Syndrome. The sessions are held on Saturdays at the Charlton Athletic Training Ground from 1.00pm – 2.30pm and revolve around football, although other activities are also delivered.

Carl Krauhaus, Disability and Mental Health Officer at CACT, said, “We are delighted with this amount raised, it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of those who helped organise the evening. This reflects the support we get from key partners including Regular Cleaning Services and Martin and Lee Simons, which allows the project to continue delivering activities for the Upbeats.”

You can support the Charlton Upbeats by donating on-line via the Just Giving website:  http://www.justgiving.com/TheCharltonUpbeats

Volunteering Week

June 24, 2013 by erjjio_support Leave a Comment

Operations Director, Tom Lloyd volunteered at Bemerton Estate, where the team tidied up a new communal garden and put on a free BBQ for the local residents. This was to help the residents to interact with each other and to advise them of free activities that are on offer in the local area.

Tom said ‘The development taking place in Kings Cross has resulted in local residents feeling detached from the community and this event was organised to show them there are lots of events for them to participate in. We had a fantastic turn out of people and it was great to see everyone talking to each other and enjoying the new garden.’

Work Experience employee, Melanie Bevan visited the Great Croft Centre in Camden for Age UK – a charity that offers care and support for the elderly within communities. Guest speakers spoke about what Age UK currently offers and how they hope to expand their services.

Melanie said ‘I took part in a group session with people from various organisations where we discussed how the charity could maximise publicity to gain a wider response from the general public as well as organisations. Overall I found the day very interesting as I learned a lot about Age UK from a business perspective and I would recommend similar events to those keen on getting more involved with the community.’

RCS are planning to hold their own volunteering week later in the year.

Business In The Community

June 6, 2013 by erjjio_support Leave a Comment

They assess us annually against their corporate responsibility index which will provide an additional way for us to measure our performance.

It also helps us to measure our progression in environmental initiatives, our commitment to the community, as well as an opportunity to benchmark this against the standards of other successful companies.

Ultimately, BITC will provide guidance on further establishing our excellence and consistency of service and RCS are thrilled to be working with them.

As part of BITC we are taking part in ‘Business Class’, which allows our company to support young people facing social disadvantage. Our aim is to form long-term partnerships with the schools, which these young people attend. We hope to provide support to these children through the needs of the school. Our Chairman, Terry Carrigan ‘believes this will be the most effective way for RCS to support young people in our community.’
