Fausto Dos Santos’ Story

September 24, 2019 by erjjio_support Leave a Comment

Pursuing work experience is hugely worthwhile. It’s a short-term commitment, which gives employees the chance to test the water – to experience first-hand, what is actually involved in certain job roles, what a company is like to work for, or what sort of culture suits you.

It is all about finding your path.

Here at Regular Cleaning we support and encourage our employees to become better versions of themselves, to help them grow and develop with the business and to increase their knowledge further. One of the first steps we take with our employees is a development/career conversation. This is where we talk about their future ambitions and how we can support them. An individual development plan is put together after the discussion which could include anything from Internal Training, Work Experience / Mentoring to a formal Apprenticeship Qualification.

Fausto Santos joined Regular Cleaning in 2017 as a cleaning operative for one of our Central London locations. He is currently studying a Business Management degree at the University of Sunderland in London. Fausto is very interested in Property Development and after retirement his ambition is to start his own business within this sector; this therefore led him into further research and he reached out to us about the opportunity to apply for the work experience we offer.

After talking to Fausto and discussing in more detail what his future goals were, we put together a development plan for him and arranged the departments he would benefit spending his time with during his two weeks work experience. Fausto was keen on developing his skills further in HR and L&D. Working alongside these departments gave him the opportunity and experience to see what the departments do on a day to day basis and what is involved behind the scenes. Both departments hold very strong relationships with all of the employees here are Regular Cleaning and HR in particular can never have the same day as the next due to the different contracts and personal matters that come forward.

To run your own company it is key to understand all departments, to enable the smooth running of the business.

During his time with us in head office, Fausto found the experience very useful as it allowed him to see how the company runs, and how each role even within the same sectors have their own objectives and how each team have exposures to a broad range of skills. It taught him to be aware that no day is the same, and that the training of each team member is highly important. To ensure safety and procedures are followed correctly to receive their fullest benefit especially in the business he is looking to go into.

Work experience is the best way to get a real sense of your chosen industry. As you’ll get to speak to employees and ask them questions. You won’t know what it’s like until you get closer to the action; it gives you more confidence. Throughout Fausto’s work experience he told us he faced some challenges, he found there are so many different processes we take that lead us on different pathways to enable us to find the best outcome for each individual situation. This therefore opened his eyes to some of the challenges he could face when owning his own business and what aspects he would need to take into consideration.

We asked Fausto if he had advice for anyone looking into or thinking about work experience. He said “It is always good to have different experiences when you are looking to create something of your own. Work experience allows you to choose what you want, to help you further your understanding when making a decision on what to study. It helps you realise the sectors that you like and don’t like. It also gives you the opportunity to acknowledge what areas you could practice more in the future. You get to learn first-hand, help the teams with their tasks and complete activates on your own, that one day I would be completing by myself, so it’s nice to find out what you should be expecting”

Regular Cleaning would like to wish Fausto all the luck for his future goals. We hope that this has helped and given some more insight into not only what work experience is, but also what a great step into gaining knowledge in different roles within a business.

“Experience is the teacher of all things” – what does Work Experience mean to you?

Recycling vs Reusing

September 11, 2019 by erjjio_support Leave a Comment

Aside from Recycling – what about Reusing plastic instead?

At our Regular Cleaning Head Office, we have an Innuscience dosing station onsite which means that not only are we able to recycle our Innuscience bottles, we are able to reuse them as well! Our Cleaning Operatives collect any empty bottles onsite, whilst our Supervisors and Contract Managers return them to our Stores department for refilling. This reusing process works wonders for us and it also helps us to reduce the overall amount that we recycle!

Our priority is to look for ways in which we can eliminate or at the very least reduce the impact the delivery of our services has on waste streams. Please see below the waste hierarchy that we follow at Regular Cleaning:

  • Prevent
  • Minimise
  • Reuse
  • Recycle

We aim toprevent the creation of waste in the first instance – via the use of paperless systems.

We minimise the introduction of materials where an alternative is available – our cleaning product dosing stations minimises the volume of plastic bottles required.

We reuse plastic cleaning product bottles – they are collected from sites, cleaned and refilled before being redistributed.

Where reusing isn’t possible, we will always source solutions that will allow us to recycle – we have recently devised a system to be able to recycle all disposable gloves used as part of the safe delivery of cleaning services, ensuring that gloves don’t enter a buildings waste stream – please click here to find out more about our Disposable Gloves Scheme via TerraCycle – https://www.regularcleaning.com/news/new-sustainability-initiatives-disposable-gloves-recycling-scheme-and-plastic-recycling-boxes. These strategies ensure that we have minimal impact on the volume of waste requiring disposal.

The photos above show some of our empty cleaning bottles ready for refilling, plus our onsite dosing station. If you would like to find out more information on Innuscience or our reusing process, please feel free to contact the Commercial Team at commercial@regularcleaning.com

Recycling is the future, Reusing is the next step!

50th Anniversary Balloon – A Surprise in the Sky

50th Anniversary Balloon – A Surprise in the Sky

It is Regular Cleaning’s 50th Anniversary this year and we recently celebrated our success with our clients, employees and staff at our Family Fun Day celebration event. It was a successful day enjoyed by many and as patrons of CACT all of our donations received will go towards The Upbeats charity. Please keep your eyes peeled for the photos in the next few weeks!

Almost a week after our event, we were surprised to receive an email from a family in Sweden with the below caption and photo attached J

“This evening this lovely balloon came floating in the ocean towards us during our evening stroll. Now the kids are so curious if the balloon derives from your celebration or not?”

Carina from Halmstad on the Swedish westcoast

It turns out that our 50th Anniversary balloon had made its way over to the Swedish West Coast to greet this lovely family! We were amazed that it had survived the long ride and are extremely grateful to the family for sharing the photo with us and for taking the time to capture the moment.

In aid of sustainability, we would like to note that we did not deliberately let our balloon go – unfortunately this one escaped but it did indeed end up being a lovely Surprise in the Sky for all.

With special thanks to the family from everyone at Regular Cleaning.

London Living Wage – The Real Cost of Living

August 16, 2019 by erjjio_support Leave a Comment

We are delighted to hear the news that our Prime Minister Boris Johnson has agreed that all government departments should pay their cleaners a real Living Wage.

Via the BBC News, Premier League Football clubs have also been urged to pay all staff above minimum wage rate after spending £1.41 billion on players. It is said that only four out of 20 Premier League clubs are accredited by the Living Wage Foundation – please click here to view the full article – https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-49288182

As a recognised London Living Wage service provider, Regular Cleaning are committed to paying our cleaning staff the living wage that they deserve wherever our client’s budget will allow for it. As a minimum we guarantee that all of our Head Office, Management and Administrative staff are paid above the London Living Wage.

Regular Cleaning strongly believe that if our employees are looked after then our clients will be too. Paying the Living Wage is not only good for business but also good for the individual and society, providing the benefits of reduced absenteeism, increased staff retention, motivation, morale and productivity. As well as the obvious social impact of improving the personal lives of our employees.

We would like to thank those of our clients who have become a Living Wage Employer through us. We will continue to encourage an open dialogue with all of our clients, as we strongly believe in the benefits to us as an employer, to our employees and to our clients of making the positive steps towards paying the Living Wage.

If you would like to find out more information on the London Living Wage or how to become a Living Wage Employer, please visit – https://www.livingwage.org.uk/what-real-living-wage
