Operations Director, Tom Lloyd volunteered at Bemerton Estate, where the team tidied up a new communal garden and put on a free BBQ for the local residents. This was to help the residents to interact with each other and to advise them of free activities that are on offer in the local area.
Tom said ‘The development taking place in Kings Cross has resulted in local residents feeling detached from the community and this event was organised to show them there are lots of events for them to participate in. We had a fantastic turn out of people and it was great to see everyone talking to each other and enjoying the new garden.’

Work Experience employee, Melanie Bevan visited the Great Croft Centre in Camden for Age UK – a charity that offers care and support for the elderly within communities. Guest speakers spoke about what Age UK currently offers and how they hope to expand their services.
Melanie said ‘I took part in a group session with people from various organisations where we discussed how the charity could maximise publicity to gain a wider response from the general public as well as organisations. Overall I found the day very interesting as I learned a lot about Age UK from a business perspective and I would recommend similar events to those keen on getting more involved with the community.’
RCS are planning to hold their own volunteering week later in the year.
