It’s Party Time!

December 3, 2012 by erjjio_support Leave a Comment

The ‘Charlton Upbeats’ is a bespoke programme delivered by CACT for young people with Down’s Syndrome. The programme has some 25-30 regular attendees, aged between 5 to 24. Sessions are organised every Saturday and are delivered at the Charlton Athletic training ground in New Eltham. The annual Christmas Party is being held on the all-weather surface in the dome at the New Eltham Training Ground on Saturday 8th December from 1.00pm-2.30pm. This will also be the last ‘Charlton Upbeats’ session of the year.

Carl Krauhaus, CACT’s Disability & Mental Health Officer said: “Our aim is keep it simple this year and make it a nice get together for all of the Upbeats and their families.

“Our plan is to run activity sessions including football, tri-golf, and dance. There’ll be music and pizzas and soft drinks for everyone.

“Father Christmas will be making a special appearance with presents for the members.

“It promises to be a fantastic party,” Carl continued “the Upbeats Christmas Party is a special occasion and all of the Upbeats look forward to it. The support we receive from RCS is always very much appreciated by everyone at CACT.”

Gemma Bowers, RCS’s HR Manager said: “We’re delighted to once again support the Charlton Upbeats Christmas Party and RCS staff will be in attendance to assist the CACT team on the day.

“The work that CACT carries out in its Disability and Mental Health programmes really make a difference to people’s lives. We’re pleased to be able to help.”

Teamwork – The Joy Of Sharing

December 3, 2012 by erjjio_support Leave a Comment

This innovative scheme is in operation at Aldworth House from Monday to Thursday

Five green car share/car parking spaces have been mapped out in the car park and, from Monday to Thursday, participants at head office are using public transport, cycling, sharing transport to and from the office, or sharing a car parking space. Friday is designated as a ‘free day.’

Since the scheme started in September the participants have achieved a 508.43 Kg reduction in the company’s indirect carbon footprint.

RCS HR Manager, Gemma Bowers said: “The scheme has been a great success and we’re delighted by the way that RCS staff have supported the car share/car space scheme.

“We can measure the positive impact a reduction in car use has on the environment and we will continue to encourage initiatives like this which demonstrate how small changes can make a difference.”

Dress Down Day

December 2, 2012 by erjjio_support Leave a Comment

On Friday 23rd November the company held a ‘Dress Down Day’ in order to raise money for CACT’s ‘Ability Counts’ project, which is a programme of sessions run in school term time for disabled players from the ages of 5-16 years old. CACT is seeking to raise £1,000 to enable the programme to continue.

Staff were asked to donate £1.00 to take part in an office ‘Dress Down Day’ and three of the company’s sites took part, raising an excellent total of £270.00, with cleaning operatives on one of the sites alone donating an impressive figure of £134.00.

The next initiative planned will be a ‘Tea-a-thon’ where staff will be asked to donate 10p per cup of tea or coffee they drink. An RCS Contract Manager has also donated his services, which, when he’s in the office will see him make the tea or coffee for 50p per cup – if staff make their own hot drink when he’s around they will be fined £1.00!

RCS HR Manager Gemma Bowers, said: “We already have £12.55 for the ‘tea-a-thon’, even though we haven’t even started yet.

“We are also going to hold a Christmas raffle, so hopefully by the end of the year we will raise the £1000 that is needed for the Ability Counts programme.” Carl Krauhaus, Disability and Mental Health Officer at CACT said: “RCS have, and continue to be, a fantastic Patron of the ‘Disability and Mental Health’ programme.

“They are constantly thinking of new ways to further support the work that we do. Over the last 2 weeks RCS have provided and planted winter plants in ‘The Charlton Upbeats’ garden at the training ground and have now turned their attentions to this fun way of involving their staff in supporting ‘Ability Counts’ whilst at work.

“Also during this period they have pledged support to ensure that ‘The Charlton Upbeats’ Christmas party goes ahead this year.

“This is just scratching the surface of the full support that RCS have given over the past 2 years and we can’t thank them enough.”
