Charity Golf Day

January 7, 2011 by erjjio_support Leave a Comment

Voted a top 100 course, the event mimicked the format of the Ryder Cup competition which was starting the same day.

The weather was absolutely atrocious, but unlike the stars at the Celtic Manor all participants bravely battled on to the end, thoroughly enjoying this great course.  The outright winners were the team representing Great Britain and Europe, but the real winners were the children at Demelza House who benefited from the money raised on the day to go along with the donations made earlier in the summer following a day at Chislehurst Golf Club.

RCS Get Back To Nature

RCS, HAND IN HAND WITH THE GUARDIAN, GET BACK TO NATURE

Camley Street Natural Park is an innovative and internationally acclaimed nature reserve situated in the heart of Kings Cross.

Sandwiched between the Regent’s Canal and St Pancras International Station, Camley Street National Park is one of the first examples of a purposely created nature reserve in the UK.  The park is built on the site of an old railway coal yard, having been saved from development in the early 1980’s following a campaign by local wildlife enthusiasts.  Managed by the London Wildlife Trust, today the park is a unique wild green space in central London and an asset for both wildlife and the local community.

Along with staff from The Guardian, Tom and Kevin spent the day helping out with the maintenance of the site, removing rubbish, clearing overgrown areas and building habitats for insects.  The green material was then chipped and recycled for future use as mulch.

Electronic Christmas Card

January 7, 2011 by erjjio_support Leave a Comment

This decision is very much in line with our Sustainability Strategy and has the dual advantage of minimising our carbon footprint allowing us to use the money saved to fund the Xmas Party for the children of Demelza House Hospice Care and their families.

The card was designed and drafted by Paddy, IT enthusiast and thirteen year old son of Managing Director, David Sambrook. Paddy met the brief of producing a light-hearted design which captured the Xmas party theme and clearly recognised the Demelza and RCS brands.

Chemical Free Cleaning

December 15, 2010 by erjjio_support Leave a Comment

Ionised water acts as a multipurpose cleaner that removes dirt more effectively than many conventional cleaning chemicals on non-porous surfaces, but has the bonus of impressive green credentials having no additives, no chemicals and no packaging. It is also 99.9% effective against all commonly known pathogens.

RCS have purchased a number of these re-chargeable hand held spray units and is currently carrying out site trials to fully assess their benefits.

Lean, Green, Cleaning Regime

November 10, 2010 by erjjio_support Leave a Comment

Most of us believe that taking the green cleaning option helps preserve the environment.  But choosing a green product is just the first step. True sustainability takes the full lifecycle approach which starts with renewable resourcing, looks at the amount of energy used in the product’s creation, its distribution to point of usage, its efficiency of use and its ultimate disposal.

The problem is that very few green products can claim to be sustainable and many are simply ineffective as cleaners.

After extensive trials, RCS can now offer its customers an effective cleaning regime entirely utilising a small range of green products which demonstrate very high levels of efficiency and present no harm to operatives, office workers or the environment.

The products originate as biological actives found in the soil. Through a natural degradation and purification process they will continue to break down and digest waste hours after application. They are supplied in a high concentrated form, in predominantly recyclable packaging so minimising both distribution mileage and waste.

The RCS sustainability strategy also encourages clients to consider cleaning during office hours. This can save on lighting, improve trust and security, and raise the perception and satisfaction of the cleaning service with the office staff.

Experience gained from recent pandemic scares has taught us that by scheduling frequent cleaning of common touch points during the day, we can greatly reduce illness through crosscontamination, thus improving the sustainability of the building.

It provides further benefits for the cleaning staff who are better able to identify with the business and enjoy improved family friendly lifestyles.

While accepting that this concept will not suit every situation it is one more option on the route to reducing our carbon footprint.

Upbeats A Success

October 19, 2010 by erjjio_support Leave a Comment

The Charlton Upbeats is a bespoke programme delivered by the Charlton Athletic Community Trust for young people with Down’s Syndrome and some £20,000 was raised at the hugely successful Charlton Upbeats fundraising dinner held at The Valley on 14th October.

The evening featured special guest speaker former Formula 1 World Champion Damon Hill, plus appearances from former Charlton manager Alan Curbishley, Charlton legends Keith Peacock and Steve Gritt plus a handful of the Upbeats members and families also attended.

RCS Chairman, Terry Carrigan said: “Corporate Social Responsibility underpins everything we do as a business, not just in supporting charities and good causes like tonight’s excellent event but also in doing the right thing by our staff, partners, customers and communities. We fully recognise that our activities can have significant social impacts on business and society and we work to ensure that we optimise the positive effects and to minimise adverse impacts on the environment.

“We’ve been quietly supporting charities and good causes for many years and the Charlton Upbeats initiative by the Charlton Athletic Community Trust is an inspiring project that we are delighted to be associated with.

Trust CEO Jason Morgan said: “It was a fantastic evening and I would like to thank everyone for their magnificent support of such a worthwhile project.

“The money raised tonight has guaranteed the immediate future of the Upbeats project and all of the young people with Down’s Syndrome involved in the Upbeats and their parents are so grateful to everyone who supported the event.”

Terry Carrigan concluded: “On behalf of everyone at RCS I would like to take this opportunity to offer the Charlton Upbeats every success for the future.”
