As we are partnered with Eltham Hill School through the BITC business class scheme, we also involved the students, were we again received a great amount of interest.

We organised volunteering activities, for the Demelza Hospice Care for Children, one of Mission Care’s residential homes and Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT).

Our employees Stacey, Sophie, Mary and Lynn, along with four students from Eltham Hill School and their teacher, took part in detailed painting of the Demelza ‘Walk of life’ path. Demelza Hospice provides care and support to terminally ill children, young people and their families. It turned out to be a lovely day and everyone enjoyed it. A student from Eltham Hill School said “Thank you for a great day! I really enjoyed painting and looking around the building. I hope to do more to volunteer for Demelza”

We also volunteered for Mission Care at Willett House, a residential home for people who have Dementia. Jessica, along with two students and their teacher from Eltham Hill School, helped residents with planting hanging baskets. Jessica said “volunteering at mission care was a really positive experience. The students from Eltham Hill who came to volunteer enjoyed the visit so much they are going to ask their head teacher if they can go back again.”

CACT organise trips and outings as part of an Early Intervention Scheme with Oxleas NHS Trust for people who are suffering with Psychosis. Our employees Gemma, Mary and Andrea joined the group on a visit to the National Portrait Gallery.  As well as a tour of the gallery we all had the opportunity to demonstrate our artistic skills and draw a portrait. The idea of the trip was to encourage group participation and socialising, but also to help the group to try something new and overcome anxieties they may face. Thus giving each person a great sense of achievement.

Mary said “I really enjoyed taking part and met some lovely people. I had so much fun, that I forgot I was volunteering! The experience has definitely inspired me to do more volunteering”

All who took part really enjoyed their experience, and we are happy to hear that the students enjoyed it so much, that they would like to participate in more voluntary work.
